Making pre Heresy obliterators

Good morning Vietnam! I've stoped from painting this days, but don't worry, the weathering tutorial for starters would be finished!

Now let's talking about the Obliterator cult. I'm not really a fan of them. Certainly I would be much happier with Cult Terminators... But better to keep this on-topic :)

The Obliterators are a very versatile Heavy Support choice, and, besides I only play WH40K for the fluff, I like to win sometimes. Of course, I play to win, but for the fluff. Combine both concepts can be very painful, so following the wise advices of The Jeske (B&C) and specially, of VonManstein (Warseer, aka Zhukov in B&C) I conceded and picked a unit of Obliterators to play in competitive enviroments.

But, since this army is intended to be pre Heresy, the Obliterators are out of place. To amend this, my first thought was running them as Techmarines with full servo-harness (I don't discard one of those, by the way), but after seeing the amazing Obliterators of Dan The Daemon, I changed my mind and decided stole his idea.

But, to the point. Pictures ahoy!

This is only a rough sketch of my aim. That guys needs a lot of work, green stuff to fill some gaps and some details, but there is more or less the basic idea. I'm thinking in making the little base removable, to show actual wounds in game. Comments & criticism very welcome!

Cheers.

  1. Conceptually, I like the idea a lot. Are you going to make an effort to model them in such a way as to account for the different variety of guns available to obliterators though?

  2. Hi Warhammer39k,

Yes, I have the intention of fill up with different weapons like flamers, meltaguns and so on, but not all the obliterator weapons, because in that case I would need a 60mm base. My thought is one heavy weapon in every obliterator base: lascannon, multi-melta and plasma cannon, then add some pouches, vox-casters, auspex and bits of all kind, to make them something like a heavy weapon commando force.

    Cheers!
